Curate from anywhere with the Letterhead browser extension

Edit in CMS

The Letterhead browser extension brings curation to where you already work — the web. As you browse, you can save any story, news item, or event to your Curations library in a click, then pull it into a newsletter later. The extension is available for Google Chrome.

It does two things:

  • Curate from any webpage — save the page to your Curations library, editing the title, excerpt, image, and tags before you save. Adding tags as you save keeps items easy to find and place later.
  • Copy promotions for use elsewhere — ad-manager users can grab a promotion’s HTML and paste it into another ESP or CMS.

Creating newsletters and promotions themselves still happens in the Letterhead web app.

  1. Add the Letterhead extension from the Chrome Web Store, and pin it to your toolbar so it’s easy to reach.
  2. Click the Letterhead icon and enter your tenant prefix when prompted — see Find your tenant prefix below.
  3. Sign in with your Letterhead email and password.

Your tenant prefix comes straight from the URL you use to open the Letterhead web app. Open the web app, sign in, and look at your browser’s address bar:

  • No prefix before “app” — if the URL starts with https://app.tryletterhead.com/..., your tenant prefix is lh1.
  • A prefix before “app” — if the URL starts with https://<prefix>.app.tryletterhead.com/..., that <prefix> is usually your tenant prefix. For example, https://abc.app.tryletterhead.com/... usually means your prefix is abc.

Make sure you’re signed in to the correct account and copy the subdomain exactly as it appears in the address bar.

A small number of longstanding accounts use a public URL name that’s different from their actual tenant prefix. If the prefix you found doesn’t work when you try to sign in, contact support and we’ll confirm your tenant prefix for you.

  1. Open the article you want to curate and click the Letterhead icon.
  2. Choose the channel the article should be added to.
  3. Click Curate. The extension loads editable metadata from the page.
  4. Adjust the title, excerpt, image, and tags as needed — you can keep the auto-detected image or pick a different one, and choose existing tags or create new ones.
  5. Click Save Curations. A confirmation appears once the article is in your library.

Once saved, your articles are ready to drop into any newsletter with a Curation block — see Working in Curations for the full picture.

Ad Manager users can grab a promotion’s markup from the extension and paste it into another newsletter tool, without opening the Letterhead website.

  1. Open the Promotions tab in the extension to see your list of promotions and their dates.
  2. Use the Select Date search to jump to a specific day — the promotions running that day are displayed.
  3. Choose Copy to copy the promotion’s full HTML to your clipboard, then paste it into your newsletter application. Or choose Open to jump to the promotion’s page in your Letterhead account.

See How to Set Up Promotions in Letterhead for creating promotions in the first place.

When you save a page with the extension — or add a link with the URL block — Letterhead crawls the page to pull its title, excerpt, and image. If you get an error or an empty block, the site is usually blocking that crawl: commonly a paywall, a login wall, or crawler restrictions on the site itself.

Test the link. Paste it into opengraph.xyz. If OpenGraph can’t read the page either, the limitation is on the site’s side — Letterhead can only pull information from sites that allow crawling.

Safelist Letterhead’s crawler. If it’s your own site (or you can reach the site’s administrator), safelist *.tryletterhead.com, letterhead.email, and letterhead.ai so the crawler can reach the content. It’s named LetterheadCurationBot, with this user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; LetterheadCurationBot/1.0; +http://tryletterhead.com/bots)

If a page still won’t pull, you can always add the article manually and fill in the title, excerpt, and image yourself.
