Generate a newsletter from a URL
Edit in CMSAutomatically generate a newsletter or template by importing content from an existing newsletter archive, web page, or URL. This feature is useful for repurposing existing content or starting from a reference design.
Start the URL import
Section titled “Start the URL import”- Go to Newsletters or Templates (depending on what you want to create).
- Click Create New, New Newsletter, or New Template.
- Look for Import from URL, Generate from URL, or From Web option (TODO: confirm exact entry point and button label).
- Click to open the URL importer.
Enter the URL
Section titled “Enter the URL”- Paste the URL of the newsletter, blog post, or web page you want to use as a source.
- Examples:
- A published newsletter archive URL (e.g.,
https://newsletter.example.com/archive/issue-42) - A blog post or article (e.g.,
https://blog.example.com/post-title) - A competitor’s newsletter web view (if publicly accessible)

- Click Preview, Load, or Fetch (TODO: confirm button label).
Review and customize the preview
Section titled “Review and customize the preview”- Letterhead fetches and parses the content from the URL.
- A preview shows the extracted text, images, and layout.
- Review the content and make adjustments:
- Delete unwanted sections.
- Reorder blocks (TODO: confirm if reordering is available).
- Edit text and headings if needed.
- Verify that images and links imported correctly.
Choose format: Newsletter or Template
Section titled “Choose format: Newsletter or Template”- Decide if you’re creating a Newsletter (for a specific send) or a Template (to reuse in future sends).
- If creating a template, give it a descriptive name (e.g., “Blog Article Layout”, “Weekly Digest Template”).
- Click Create or Save as Draft.
Edit and send
Section titled “Edit and send”- The generated newsletter or template opens in the editor.
- Make any further edits: update text, change colors, adjust layout.
- If it’s a newsletter draft:
- Select your audience or segment.
- Click Send or Schedule when ready.
- If it’s a template:
- Click Save to store for future use.
- Create newsletters from this template by selecting it when creating a new newsletter.
- URL imports work best with clean, article-style content; complex multi-column layouts may require manual adjustment.
- Always verify that imported images and links are correct and point to the right destinations.
