Generate a newsletter from a URL

Edit in CMS

Automatically generate a newsletter or template by importing content from an existing newsletter archive, web page, or URL. This feature is useful for repurposing existing content or starting from a reference design.

  1. Go to Newsletters or Templates (depending on what you want to create).
  2. Click Create New, New Newsletter, or New Template.
  3. Look for Import from URL, Generate from URL, or From Web option (TODO: confirm exact entry point and button label).
  4. Click to open the URL importer.
  1. Paste the URL of the newsletter, blog post, or web page you want to use as a source.
  2. Examples:
    • A published newsletter archive URL (e.g., https://newsletter.example.com/archive/issue-42)
    • A blog post or article (e.g., https://blog.example.com/post-title)
    • A competitor’s newsletter web view (if publicly accessible)
  3. Click Preview, Load, or Fetch (TODO: confirm button label).
  1. Letterhead fetches and parses the content from the URL.
  2. A preview shows the extracted text, images, and layout.
  3. Review the content and make adjustments:
    • Delete unwanted sections.
    • Reorder blocks (TODO: confirm if reordering is available).
    • Edit text and headings if needed.
  4. Verify that images and links imported correctly.
  1. Decide if you’re creating a Newsletter (for a specific send) or a Template (to reuse in future sends).
  2. If creating a template, give it a descriptive name (e.g., “Blog Article Layout”, “Weekly Digest Template”).
  3. Click Create or Save as Draft.
  1. The generated newsletter or template opens in the editor.
  2. Make any further edits: update text, change colors, adjust layout.
  3. If it’s a newsletter draft:
    • Select your audience or segment.
    • Click Send or Schedule when ready.
  4. If it’s a template:
    • Click Save to store for future use.
    • Create newsletters from this template by selecting it when creating a new newsletter.
  • URL imports work best with clean, article-style content; complex multi-column layouts may require manual adjustment.
  • Always verify that imported images and links are correct and point to the right destinations.
  • TODO: confirm if there are limitations on URL formats, page size, or content types supported.
