See your audience import history and retry a failed import

Edit in CMS

This covers the Imports history on your company’s Contacts page. If you’re looking for the per-channel CSV importer instead, see How Do I Import Subscribers?.

  1. Go to your company’s Audience (Contacts) page.
  2. Open the Imports dropdown and choose Import History.

Each import lists:

  • File — the file you uploaded.
  • Status — In progress, Completed, Failed, Needs field setup (waiting on you to choose which leftover columns to keep), or Cancelled.
  • Records — while an import is running, this shows live progress; once it finishes, it shows how many contacts were added, updated, and failed.
  • Started by — who ran the import.
  • Started — when it began.

The list refreshes on its own every few seconds while any import is still in progress.

If an import finished with failures, select the failed-record count to see each address that couldn’t be brought in and the reason why.

An import that shows Failed offers a Retry option. Retrying picks the import back up from where it left off, rather than re-running the whole file from the start.

When your file has columns that don’t match any contact field, the import waits as Needs field setup until you decide what to keep. Nothing from the file has been imported yet.

  1. Select Set up fields and continue on that import.
  2. Choose the columns to keep and their field types, then click Keep N columns and import — or Import without these columns to skip them. See Keep columns that don’t match a field for how kept columns are filled.

To drop the import instead, select Cancel import and confirm. It moves to Cancelled, and nothing from the file is imported. If the upload has expired, you’ll need to import the file again, but you can still cancel the waiting import.
