Working in Emails

The Emails page is where you create, design, schedule, and track every edition. This guide covers everything you can do there.

Compose

Build editions in the drag-and-drop composer using blocks: Heading, Paragraph, Image, Logo, HTML, YouTube, Poll, Curation, RSS, URL, Profile (social links), Share (social sharing), and Footer. Save any configured block as a Saved Block to reuse across newsletters and templates. Import content from Google Docs. If two people open the same letter, a multi-user editing alert prevents overwrites.

In a Curation block with a vertical layout, you can move the image up or down among the block’s other elements — title, excerpt, and any additional text — so it lands exactly where you want it in the published email. You can also apply bold, italic, and underline to text in a curation block, the same inline formatting available in other block types — this may need to be enabled for your account; contact support.

Polls let readers cast their vote with a single click straight from the email. Per poll, you choose whether readers see the live results immediately after they vote — the tally for each option, a bar chart of the breakdown, and their own answer highlighted — and quiz polls can show a different custom message depending on whether the reader picked the correct answer. Can I show each recipient a different image or link?

Yes, if you send through Iterable. Connect your Iterable data feeds to a channel once and that dynamic content flows into every newsletter you publish from it — no re-wiring on each send. Any image block can use a data-feed expression instead of a static uploaded image, so each reader sees the image that matches their feed data, and the image’s link can be a feed expression too, sending each reader to a different destination chosen per recipient as the email goes out. The editor canvas still shows a static preview so layout review works normally. Data-feed personalization may need to be enabled for your account — contact support. AI in the composer

Smart Subjects drafts subject lines and preview texts; the AI Rewrite tool summarizes or reformats text; the AI Text block generates intros, blurbs, and summaries in place.

Design

Control fonts, colors, email width, padding, and mobile-specific sizing in design settings. Add background images and social cards for link previews. Remove or customize Letterhead branding in the Footer block. Channel-wide custom CSS is available under Settings → Sending emails (early access) — see Custom CSS in emails.

Templates

Create reusable layouts: build a template, activate it, and schedule editions from it. Clone templates with custom names, convert a newsletter into a template, and pick which connected email provider a template sends through.

Schedule & send

Preview and schedule with your audience’s local send-time shown — the scheduler displays the current local time in the channel’s sending timezone, so you can see at a glance what time it is for your audience right now. Run A/B tests on subject lines. Track status through each stage (draft → scheduled → sending → published) — see What do Letterhead statuses mean? and Why is my newsletter stuck in “Sending”? if something looks off.

What happens if my audience segment is deleted before send time?

If the audience segment a scheduled newsletter was set to send to gets deleted before send time, Letterhead catches this beforehand: the send is stopped safely, the newsletter is moved back to draft so you can pick a new audience and try again, and your admins get an email explaining why the send was blocked — instead of the send failing with no clear explanation.

Does Letterhead monitor my email provider connection?

Yes. Letterhead keeps an eye on your connected email service provider and checks that the connection is still working. If it stops responding or your credentials stop being accepted, the connection is flagged as broken so you know to fix it, rather than quietly failing the next time you try to send. The moment the connection recovers, it’s marked healthy again automatically and any automations that were paused because of it pick back up on their own.

After sending

Delivery and engagement metrics appear on each letter’s page, including subscriber-level opens. Published editions appear on your public archive page unless you use Hide from archive. To change a published letter, duplicate it and hide the original.

Do newsletters I send through Mailchimp show up in Letterhead?

Yes. If you send campaigns natively through Mailchimp, Letterhead picks those up on its own and adds them to your channel alongside everything you send from Letterhead directly, complete with performance metrics — no manual import step needed.

What this page doesn’t do

Audience management (segments, tags, imports) lives in Audience; sponsorships live in Promotions; sending domains and team access live in Settings.

Who sees what

Org admins see everything; contributors see composing and drafts but not all channel settings. If an option described here isn’t visible, ask your admin — or the assistant, if you have early access.
