Add tag assignment steps to any automation

You can add a Tag Subscriber step to any automation, regardless of which trigger starts it. When a subscriber reaches the step, the tags you chose are applied to their contact record automatically.

Add the step

1. Open the automation for editing and add a new step where you want tags applied.
2. Choose the Tag Subscriber step type.
3. Pick the tag or tags to apply, then save the automation.

Once the automation is running, the Tag Subscriber step shows a live count of how many subscribers it has tagged since the automation began.

What tags unlock

Tags applied mid-journey feed everything else tags can do in Letterhead:

• Track which subscribers reached or completed specific points in a journey
• Segment your audience by automation behavior
• Trigger other automations from the tags a journey applies
• Build richer audience segments for future campaigns

Tags are also one of the criteria you can branch an automation on, so one automation can tag subscribers and another can route them based on that tag.
